School Council- PSHE- Spreading Christmas Cheer in the Community

Our school council members took on a wonderfully heartwarming project this week by organizing and performing a special nativity play exclusively for the residents of a local nursing home. The pupils demonstrated incredible dedication, rehearsing their roles as Mary, Joseph, shepherds, and angels to bring the traditional story to life. The performance was met with warm applause and generated a tangible sense of festive cheer among the residents, providing a lovely inter-generational connection. Following the play, the children personally greeted the residents, shared handmade cards, and offered sincere wishes for a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, reinforcing the school's commitment to community spirit and kindness during the holiday season.

Year 3 - Communion In Church

Our Year 3 class had a wonderful and meaningful visit to church today! The children attended a Communion Service, learning about the traditions and significance of this important worship experience within the church community. They demonstrated great respect and maturity throughout the service. Following the service, the children were warmly welcomed by some local parishioners for a lovely community lunch. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to connect with members of the church, share stories, and enjoy a delicious meal together. Thank you to Rev. Kev and all the parishioners who made our visit so memorable and educational!

Year 3 - English - Developing A Persuasive Argument

Year 3 students channeled their inner advocates and dived into the exciting world of persuasive writing. We focused on developing strong, coherent arguments by tackling a very local and important issue: persuading the council to keep our beloved local fast food restaurant open.

Year 3 - Design and Technology - Making A Mock Up Of A Seasonal Tart

Year 3 became bakers-in-training this week! As part of our D.T. project, we created 3D mock-ups of our proposed seasonal tarts. The children did a fantastic job using craft materials to represent different seasonal vegetables and toppings. These models have helped us decide exactly how we want our final, edible tarts to look.

Year 3 - Science - Understanding Nutritional Values

In Science this week, Year 3 investigated the importance of a balanced diet. The children explored the five main food groups—carbohydrates, proteins, dairy, fruit/vegetables, and fats—and discussed how each nutrient helps our bodies grow and repair. We also analysed food packaging labels to identify nutritional values, paying close attention to the "traffic light" system to spot hidden sugars and saturated fats.

Year 3 - English - Understanding The Main Reasons For A Letter

This week, Year 3 have been discovering how to change minds with words! We started our new unit on Persuasive Letters by acting as text detectives. Our specific focus was identifying the main reasons within a text. The children read example letters and worked hard to pick out exactly why the author was writing and what arguments they used to support their point of view. It was a great introduction to understanding how to build a strong argument before we start writing our own!

Online Safety - Tracking Devices

Tracking devices were designed to help people find lost belongings, but they’ve also opened the door to worrying forms of misuse. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday explores how Bluetooth trackers like AirTags and SmartTags can be misused for stalking, bullying and invading young people’s privacy. Year 3 - Science - The Musculoskeletal System

Year 3 learned all about the incredible musculoskeletal system—the body's scaffolding and engine. We investigated how our muscles and bones work together like a team to help us run, jump, and even just hold a pencil. We identified the main purpose of our skeleton—to support and protect our organs. We looked at different bones like the femur and the skull. We explored how muscles work in pairs to create movement. We tried out actions, like bending our arms, and saw how one muscle contracted (shortened) while the other relaxed (lengthened). This was called antagonistic movement! We participated in a fun activity where we created a simple model of our hand. It was a super interesting lesson, and we all came away knowing so much more about the power and complexity of our own bodies!

Year 3 - P.E. - Golf Skills

This week in P.E., Year 3 transformed into budding golfers! We focused on developing the core skills needed to control the ball on the ground. We learned the correct grip—how to hold the club to ensure a powerful and accurate swing. We practised interlocking our hands and keeping a firm but relaxed hold. We explored the importance of a good stance and positioning ourselves correctly over the ball. We made sure our feet were shoulder-width apart and our knees were slightly bent. We practised the putting swing, focusing on a smooth, controlled motion to send the ball rolling gently toward a target. We talked about keeping our head down and following through with the club.

Year 3 - Science - Recognising The Main Bones In The Body

This week, Year 3 explored the amazing world inside us during our science lesson on the human body! The children worked like scientists to recognise and identify the main bones in the human skeleton. They learned where the cranium (skull), rib cage, and femur (thigh bone) were located and what important jobs they did.

Year 3 - Design Technology - Evaluating Seasonal Foods

This week, Year 3 explored the wonderful world of seasonal food! We acted like food critics and evaluated three fresh ingredients: asparagus, radish, and spring onion. We tasted each food and discussed its texture, smell, and flavour. We then decided which ingredient worked best for a seasonal tart. The children used fantastic descriptive words to explain their choices.
