Adverse Weather & School Closure Information
Our primary concern is always the safety of our students and staff. In the event of severe weather (e.g., heavy snow, ice, or flooding) that could make travel dangerous or affect the safety/functionality of the school site, a decision to close the school may be made.
How to Check for a School Closure
The decision to close is typically made by 7:00 AM to allow parents and staff time to plan.
If the school is closed, you will be notified via:
-
1. Dojo: A clear message will be sent out to all parent via Dojo.
-
2. Website: We will add a mesage to our website that tells parents school is closed and why.
-
3. Local Authority Website: Our status will be updated on the www.blackburn.gov.uk website
-
4. Local Radio: Listen to Radio Lancashire for announcements.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Please assume the school is OPEN unless you receive a specific communication confirming a closure. Please do not call the school office, as phone lines must be kept clear for essential communications and emergencies.
What to Do During a Closure
-
Remote Learning: During a full closure, lessons and activities will be provided via Google Classroom, Students should check their class platforms for work set by their teachers.
-
Re-opening: Information about re-opening for the subsequent day will be communicated through the same channels by 4:00 PM on the day of the closure.
Closure During the School Day
In the very rare event that weather conditions deteriorate rapidly and we must close early:
-
We will immediately notify parents/carers via Dojo.
-
All students must be collected by a parent or named emergency contact.
-
The school will remain open and supervised until every student has been safely collected.
Key Policy Points to Also Consider:
-
Who Makes the Decision: The decision rests with the Head Teacher in consultation with the CEO & Chair of Governors.
-
Criteria for Closure: Factors considered include:
-
Safety of the site (e.g., clear pathways, heating/power functionality).
-
Road conditions and safety for walking routes and school transport.
-
Availability of sufficient staff to safely supervise and teach students (many staff may commute from further away).
